Upon arrival at Baku, the vibrant and cosmopolitan capital of Azerbaijan, you will be warmly greeted by your local guide at the airport. A scenic transfer of 25 km will lead you to your hotel, where you can rest and prepare for the journey ahead. This city, known for its modern architecture, rich history, and cultural depth, is the perfect starting point for your exploration of Azerbaijan. After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, the day begins with a visit to the Alley of Martyrs, the highest panoramic point in Baku. From here, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the magnificent Baku Bay, often compared to the bay of Naples, a city with which Baku shares a special bond. The journey continues through the Old City, where elegant buildings from the early 20th century, constructed by wealthy Azerbaijani oil magnates, stand as timeless monuments to the city’s rich history. Stroll through the charming streets, visiting significant landmarks such as the Shirvanshahs Palace, the famous Maiden Tower, ancient mosques, and the remnants of St. Bartholomew's Church. A second breakfast within the Old City walls provides a chance to savor local delicacies while immersing yourself in the ambiance of the historic surroundings. In the afternoon, take a trip to the Absheron Peninsula, home to natural wonders and ancient history. Visit Atashgah, an ancient fire temple in the village of Surakhani, once a spiritual center for Zoroastrians. Continue to Yanardag, the Burning Mountain, where natural gas constantly emerges from the earth, creating a mesmerizing and otherworldly sight. Afterward, return to Baku, where you will visit the iconic Cultural Center (exterior visit only), designed by Zaha Hadid, a masterpiece of futuristic architecture. The day concludes with a visit to the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, whose design resembles a rolled carpet, symbolizing the rich carpet weaving heritage of Azerbaijan. Start the day with breakfast at the hotel before departing for Guba, a picturesque town in the north of Azerbaijan. Along the way, make a stop to admire the candy-cane mountains of the Khizi district, a stunning natural feature that captures the country’s diverse landscape. Upon arrival in Guba, visit Red Town (Krasnaya Sloboda), the largest community of mountain Jews in Azerbaijan, who settled here in 1744. Explore the 19th-century synagogue and learn about the unique cultural history of this fascinating community. The journey continues with a drive to Khinalig Village, one of the most remote and highest villages in the Caucasus. With its rugged inaccessibility, unique culture, and language, Khinalig offers a captivating experience for travelers. Visit the Khinalig History Museum and discover the history and traditions of this mountain community. After breakfast, the real adventure begins. For the next three days, there will be no trees or bathrooms in sight, adding to the rugged charm of the journey. The trek begins with off-road vehicles navigating the mountain paths, followed by a hike on foot towards Goynohur Lake, located at 3300 meters above sea level. The landscape is breathtaking, with towering peaks surrounding you and the crisp mountain air refreshing every step. After a well-deserved lunch in the summer pastures, continue the trek to Goynohur Lake, a tranquil alpine paradise where tents will be pitched near the water. Enjoy a cozy dinner by the fire, surrounded by the serene wilderness. The night under the stars promises to be magical. Overnight stay in tents.
Rise early to the crisp mountain air and enjoy breakfast before setting out for another day of adventure. Today, you will climb towards Babadagh, one of Azerbaijan’s highest peaks. The breathtaking views from the top will offer panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain ranges, making the climb well worth it. After some free time at the summit to take in the scenery, descend toward Goturnohur Lake, located near Babadagh at 3100 meters above sea level. This serene mountain lake is fed by rainwater and melted ice, providing a peaceful and beautiful environment. Enjoy lunch near the lake and take some time to relax before continuing the journey towards Babadagh. Set up camp on the slopes of the mountain, with a wonderful dinner by the fire. Start the day early with breakfast, then embark on the final climb to Babadagh’s peak, where you will enjoy even more spectacular views. After taking in the sweeping panoramas, the descent begins toward Lahij Village, nestled in the Ismayilli District. Lahij is renowned for its copper craftsmanship, and you will visit Qurbangah, a sacred site where locals perform sheep sacrifices to honor God. After a tea break, continue to Lahij Village, where the village’s history and culture are beautifully preserved. A delightful evening at a guesthouse awaits, where you’ll enjoy traditional Azerbaijani hospitality. Overnight stay at the guesthouse.
After breakfast, take a morning walk through Lahij Village, famous for its copper processing and traditional handicrafts. Then, continue your journey to Baku, with a stop in Shamakhi, the former capital of the Shirvanshahs State. Visit the oldest mosque in Azerbaijan and the Diri Baba Mausoleum, an extraordinary site built into the rocks in 1402. The adventure continues to Gobustan, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its prehistoric rock engravings. Explore the modern museum, which brings the ancient past to life with interactive exhibits and displays of daily life from ancient times. Visit the fascinating mud volcanoes, a natural phenomenon that creates a lunar-like effect. Finally, return to Baku, where the day ends with a visit to the Bibi-Heybat Mosque.
